Christian is the Managing Partner and CEO of The Tengelmann Group, leading the more than 150-year old family business in the 5th generation. Tengelmann is primarily engaged in the retail industry (DIY, fashion and general merchandise discount), but also operates a large commercial real estate portfolio (retail and multi-family) and runs venture capital platforms in both Europe and North America. Christian also served as Chairman, President and CEO of The Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Company, Inc. (A&P) and spent several years in investment banking with Dillon Read in New York. He is a graduate of the University of Economics and Business Administration in Vienna, Austria where he earned a master’s degree in social and economic sciences. He serves on the board of Metro, Inc., a leading Canadian food and drug retailer in Montreal.
Andreas is Founding Partner and CEO of Emil Capital Partners, with a background of over 15 years of experience working with entrepreneurs and family enterprises. Prior to Emil Capital, Andreas held senior executive positions in corporate finance and human resources; serving as Senior EVP & CFO of the Tengelmann Group, CFO of E. Breuninger, and Chief Strategy Officer of The Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Company (A&P). He also held senior consultant positions with CSC Index and PA Consulting. Andreas holds a Master’s degree in Psychology, an MBA and a Ph.D. in Economics and Business Administration, and has been a visiting faculty member at several European universities including the European Business School, the University of Dusseldorf, the University of Stuttgart, HSG and the University St. Gallen.
Marcel is Managing Partner and COO of Emil Capital. Marcel started his career in the wonderful world of Automotive, serving in various key operational roles at Daimler AG (formerly Daimler Chrysler AG) in the United States, Germany and South Africa. Before joining Emil Capital in 2011, he worked at a multi-billion dollar distressed private equity firm in New York City, and at a strategic and financial advisory firm in Sydney, Australia. Marcel holds a joint master’s degree in mechanical engineering and economics from the Technical University of Berlin, Germany and an MBA from Columbia Business School in New York. Outside of work, he enjoys just about anything that tires out his energetic two kids (and the family dog).
Prior to joining Emil in 2020, Morgan worked as an investment professional at Juna Equity Partners, an offshoot to GE Equity, where he identified, underwrote, and managed private equity investments. Prior to GE, he worked at a healthcare technology startup, a turnaround focused private equity firm, and the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. Morgan also served for five years in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged at the rank of Captain. He holds a bachelor’s degree in finance from Tulane University and an MBA from NYU’s Stern School of business. Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with his family and serving as a volunteer firefighter.
Ryan is a finance and general management leader. He has tremendous respect for entrepreneurs and understand the opportunities and challenges of scaling consumer businesses, having co-founded 301 INC, General Mills’ venture arm, in 2015. Prior to General Mills, he spent multiple years working with clients in the lower middle market to execute mergers and acquisitions, debt recapitalizations, and private capital financings. Ryan holds a B.S. in Business Administration from Bucknell University. Outside the office, he enjoys spending quality time with family and friends.
Marie-Li previously worked in Investment Management at Goldman Sachs in New York, where she helped manage a Fixed Income fund and led investments in the consumer and retail sectors. Marie-Li holds a B.S. in Finance from the Carroll School of Management at Boston College and an M.B.A. from Columbia Business School where she was a Private Equity Fellow. She enjoys pretty much any activity outdoors, particularly skiing and running.
Jeff began his career helping build and scale technology businesses with a focus on business development and go-to-market strategy. After relocating to New York, he chose to pursue finance and worked at Bloomberg LP and within the investment banking division of Jefferies. He holds an MBA from London Business School and a BA in Communication from the University of New Hampshire. Outside of work, he’s passionate about closing the opportunity gap in early education. He also enjoys spending time with family and traveling to places off the beaten path.
Melissa brings a combination of operational and investing experience to Emil. Prior to joining Emil in 2020, Melissa spent five years in brand management at General Mills and Danone. She started her career in finance with roles at Ares Management in the Private Debt group and Wells Fargo Securities on the Leveraged Finance team. She holds a B.S. in Business Administration, Summa Cum Laude, from Washington & Lee University and an M.B.A., with Honors, from the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth. Outside of work she enjoys anything in the mountains.
Sarah began her career at Morgan Stanley – first in Equity Capital Markets covering consumer, retail, media and telecom clients, followed by a strategic projects role for the Institutional Securities Group focused on execution of key priorities while supporting senior executives in a chief of staff capacity. After a brief hiatus for her M.B.A., Sarah returned to Morgan Stanley as an Associate in Consumer & Retail Investment Banking covering a myriad of clients across the food retail, beauty, luxury retail and CPG sectors. Sarah holds a B.A. in Public Policy and Political Science, Magna Cum Laude, from Duke University and an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School. Outside of work, Sarah enjoys biking, skiing and spending time with family and friends. She is a proud Blue Devils fan, with many March Madness brackets to prove it.
Before starting at Emil Capital Partners, Christoph worked as an Analyst at Mainlevel Consulting AG in Frankfurt, Germany specializing in data aggregation, interpretation and industry research. Christoph studied at the University of Wisconsin-Madison where he double majored in Economics and European History. In addition, Christoph spent time at the London School of Economics studying Corporate Finance. While at UW, Christoph was also a member of the varsity rowing team. Outside of work, Christoph enjoys traveling, the outdoors and Badger Football.
